Montmarin gardens, Coastal botanical garden in Pleurtuit, France.
Montmarin is a botanical garden by the coast with four terraces descending toward the Rance River. The terraces are planted with diverse collections and organized in the French style.
The garden was established in 1762 and later restored after a period of neglect. The design of the first two terraces was preserved during this work.
The garden mixes formal French layouts on the upper level with wilder plantings below, showing how local gardeners balance tradition and nature. You notice this shift in style as you walk down the terraces.
The garden is open from April through October, with extended hours in summer months. An on-site plant nursery is available if you wish to purchase plants to take home.
The garden underwent major renewal after severe storm damage in the 1980s. The rehabilitation work was recognized with an international award in 1992.
