The Drunken Duck, Restaurant and pub in Lake District, England
The Drunken Duck is a restaurant and pub in the Lake District, serving lunch and dinner in a stone building featuring wooden floors, wall artwork, and hops hanging from the ceiling. The interior blends historic architecture with warm, welcoming spaces.
The building originated as a farmhouse over 300 years ago and later transformed into a pub before a microbrewery called Barngates was added in 1997. This progression shows how the property evolved from agricultural use to hospitality and then to food and beverage production.
The pub honors British culinary traditions while presenting modern interpretations, with wild game and locally caught fish taking center stage on its menu. Diners experience how classic regional ingredients appear in fresh new forms here.
Lunch is available Monday through Saturday between 12:00 and 14:00 without reservations, while dinner requires advance booking. It helps to visit during quieter times if you prefer walk-in service or want to avoid waiting.
The attached Barngates brewery produces beers supplied to approximately 80 establishments across the region, extending the business well beyond the pub itself. Visitors can taste these craft beers directly where they are brewed.
