Chemin des Crêtes

The Chemin des Crêtes is a hiking trail along the Mediterranean coast near Ajaccio that winds through varied terrain toward the Sanguinaires Islands. The path passes olive groves, open grasslands, and rocky ridges with sea views throughout.

The trail developed from ancient herding and farming paths carved into the landscape over centuries. It still shows traces of this earlier use through the many ruins of farmsteads and dry stone walls scattered along the way.

Stone walls along the path mark where farmers once grew crops and kept animals centuries ago. The place names reflect this agricultural past and show how people shaped the land through daily work.

The trail offers two main routes at different elevations, both manageable for people in good health. Bring water and sun protection, as exposed sections have little shade.

In certain spots you find old field boundaries and grain traces showing where people farmed for centuries. These quiet remnants tell stories of everyday life that changed little across the generations.
