Maison des Ponts Couverts, Public building in La Petite France district, Strasbourg, France.
The Maison des Ponts Couverts is a public building in Strasbourg situated on an island between two channels of the Ill River. Two fortified towers from the 14th century stand on either side of the structure, while waterways flow past on both flanks.
The building was originally constructed in the 19th century as a bathhouse and residence. In 1960 ownership transferred to the City of Strasbourg.
Today the building serves as a family meeting place where parents and children participate in community activities and support programs. The wisteria-covered iron pergola that blooms in spring draws visitors who appreciate how the flowering plants frame views toward the cathedral.
The house sits in the Petite France district, an area with narrow streets and waterways that are easy to explore on foot. Access is best from Rue des Moulins, and the surroundings are very walkable with numerous bridges for crossing.
The two waterways surrounding the house bear distinctive names: the Spitzmühl and the Duntzmühl, both flowing toward the Ill. These particular channels are part of a complex water system that has wound through the area for centuries.
