Stingray City, Grand Cayman

Stingray City is a natural sandbar in North Sound where southern stingrays gather in shallow, clear water. Visitors can observe and interact with these animals in waist-deep water while guided by experienced tour operators.

The area formed in the 1900s when local fishermen cleaned their catches in these waters, attracting stingrays over time. The animals learned to associate boat engines with food and began returning regularly to the location.

The location serves as a primary contributor to Grand Cayman's marine tourism sector, generating substantial economic benefits for the local community.

Most tours last about three hours and depart from Seven Mile Beach with guides explaining feeding techniques and safety rules. The water is shallow and calm, making it accessible for beginners, but basic swimming ability is recommended.

Southern stingrays congregate naturally in this specific location, creating one of the few places worldwide where people can observe these creatures in shallow water.
