Playa Punta Cocos

Playa Punta Cocos sits at the western tip of Isla Holbox and features stretches of white sand meeting clear water perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The shoreline extends naturally with a simple, undeveloped character shaped by its coastal setting.

This beach sits within Isla Holbox, which began as a small fishing settlement and gradually transformed into a tourist destination over recent decades. The island has maintained much of its traditional character even as its economic focus shifted.

Local fishermen work daily along the shore, keeping alive traditional practices that have shaped coastal life here for generations. Their presence offers visitors a window into how people have long connected with the sea in this region.

You can reach the beach by walking about two kilometers from central Holbox or renting a golf cart or bicycle to travel along Cherna and Pedro Joaquín Coldwell streets. The journey is flat and straightforward, making it accessible for most visitors without special equipment or difficulty.

On moonless nights the water displays bioluminescence as waves move, creating a natural glow when organisms in the water light up. This phenomenon is rare and memorable for visitors fortunate enough to witness it during darker evening visits.
