Termas de Médanos
Termas de Médanos is a thermal spring complex in the southern region of Buenos Aires Province featuring several heated pools at varying temperatures and an artificial lake. The water comes from more than 1,000 meters below the surface and maintains high warmth throughout the year, with most pools covered and the grounds equipped with green spaces, walking paths, and kayak access.
The complex opened in 2009, building on the region's long-valued natural thermal springs whose mineral-rich waters have been recognized for their properties. The site developed these natural resources into a modern recreational facility for the general public.
The name Médanos refers to the sand dunes characteristic of this region. Visitors experience a straightforward way of life here where thermal bathing and contact with nature form the center of daily activity.
The complex sits roughly 40 minutes from Bahía Blanca and is accessible via Route 22, followed by 2 kilometers on a rural road toward the town of Médanos. Visitors should note that opening is limited to Thursday through Sunday, it is wise to confirm hours before traveling, and pets are not permitted on the grounds.
The mineral content of the water, particularly calcium and sulfates from deep underground sources, contributes to its warmth and is valued by many visitors for potential health benefits. The artificial island in the lake and kayak outings offer an unexpected activity for a thermal bathing site that sets it apart from similar complexes.
