Mariposa, Italian restaurant in Sedona, United States.
Mariposa is an Italian restaurant in Sedona, Arizona, set in a building on a hillside overlooking the area's red rock formations. Large glass panels run along the dining room walls, framing the view and letting the surrounding landscape become part of the space.
The restaurant opened in 2015 under chef Lisa Dahl, who had already built a reputation in Sedona through her other dining spots. From the start, she shaped the menu around Italian cooking crossed with Latin American flavors.
The place blends South American flavors with Italian cooking traditions. On the menu you will find handmade empanadas, Chilean sea bass, and grilled meats prepared in the Argentinian way.
The restaurant sits outside central Sedona on an elevated site, so most visitors arrive by car and park on-site before heading in. Reservations are a good idea, especially for evening visits or weekends when demand tends to be higher.
The front door of the restaurant was made from stones and minerals gathered in Africa, South America, and Utah, and weighs around 1,000 pounds (450 kg). On either side of the door stand fire-lit globe lights shaped like butterflies, marking the entrance.
