Schloss Schadau & Schadau-Park
Schloss Schadau & Schadau-Park is a hotel housed in a 19th-century castle set within a large park by the water. The building displays a blend of medieval and French architectural styles with a colorful facade and ornate stonework.
The castle was built between 1846 and 1854, replacing an older structure from 1638. In 1925, the city of Thun acquired the building to prevent its demolition and later opened it to the public.
The name Schadau comes from the family that originally settled in this area. Today, the castle serves as a hotel and event venue where visitors can dine or celebrate in historic rooms.
The castle is accessible from Thun's town center on foot, by bike, or car and sits within a large park with walking paths. The rooms are individually designed and the restaurant welcomes day visitors who are not staying overnight.
Within the park stands a rotunda housing the Thun Panorama, a giant circular painting from the 19th century depicting the city and surrounding mountains. This panorama is the oldest surviving work of its kind in the world.
