Dilek, Turkish restaurant in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Dilek is a Turkish restaurant in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, set up with wooden furniture, white tablecloths and large windows that let in natural light. The dining room is simply arranged, with enough space between tables to make conversation easy.
The brand was founded in Istanbul in 1957 and grew steadily over the following decades before opening its first Saudi location. The Jeddah branch, which opened in 2015, was the first major step outside Turkey.
Dilek serves traditional Turkish dishes such as grilled meats, mezze and freshly baked bread, much as they would appear on a table in Istanbul. The menu follows the Turkish dining tradition of sharing several small plates before the main course.
The restaurant sits close to the Jeddah waterfront, which makes it easy to find if you are already in that part of town. Parking is available on site, and booking ahead is a good idea if you plan to visit on a weekend.
The restaurant runs its own in-house bakery, producing fresh Turkish bread every day. The flour used comes directly from mills in Anatolia, which gives the bread a flavor that is noticeably different from what local flour would produce.
