Tomb of Eve, Archaeological site in Al Balad, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
The Tomb of Eve is an archaeological site with cemetery in Al Balad, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The grave structure runs over a length of around 120 meters and rises several meters within the walled area.
The scholar Hamdani mentioned the grave in the tenth century as the first written record. Later travelers and consular officials described the structure with different measurements in the twentieth century.
The site takes its name from a biblical figure and links to the city's Arabic meaning of grandmother. Visitors today see a closed area that remains a place of tradition for Muslims.
Access remains limited to Muslim visitors, and security staff monitor the entrance to the cemetery. The site lies in the old city, so you can reach it on foot from other historical points.
European travelers recorded the structure with varying measurements depending on when they visited. These differences show how records changed over decades and which parts remained accessible over time.
