The Witch House

The Witch House is a timber-frame structure from the 1600s that displays original colonial furnishings and household objects throughout its rooms. The building shows how people of that era constructed homes and arranged living spaces, with period details visible in every area.

Judge Jonathan Corwin owned the house during the Salem witch trials of 1692 and participated in questioning the accused in rooms within the structure. The building directly connects to the events and people involved in those proceedings.

The home displays how a prosperous colonial family lived and arranged their rooms in the 1600s, showing the objects and furniture that signaled wealth and standing in that era. Walking through the rooms reveals the everyday practices and choices of people from that time.

The house is located in downtown Salem and is easily reached on foot, with parking available nearby for those arriving by car. Plan for about one to two hours to walk through all the rooms and read the displays carefully.

Of all the buildings in Salem tied to the witch trials, this is the only original structure still standing from that time. Every other location where key events occurred has disappeared or was reconstructed years later.
