Domaine des Oiseaux, parc ornithologique en Ariège
Domaine des Oiseaux is a nature reserve and bird park set across lakes and wetland areas. The site includes observation points positioned throughout the grounds, along with a barn museum displaying historical farm equipment from the region.
The site was created as a bird park and launched a program to bring white storks back to the area where they had disappeared. The storks have returned and now nest regularly on the grounds.
A restored barn on the grounds displays old farming tools and equipment that reveal how rural communities worked the land in the Pyrenees. Walking through these exhibits, you see the practical devices that shaped daily life in this mountain region.
The grounds feature walking paths and observation points that let you watch birds from good vantage spots. Pathways are designed to be accessible for visitors with mobility considerations.
Cameras placed around the grounds capture bird behavior and stream the footage to a projection room indoors. This lets visitors observe actions happening across the site without having to walk to every location.
