Terra mineralia, Mineralogical museum in Freudenstein Castle, Freiberg, Germany.
Terra mineralia is a mineralogical museum housed in Freudenstein Castle and displays more than 3500 minerals, gemstones, and meteorites across its exhibition spaces. The collection spans over 1500 square meters organized by the geographic regions they come from around the world.
The museum was founded in 2004 when Erika Pohl-Ströher donated her collection to make it publicly accessible through the Technical University of Freiberg. This gift brought together an extensive assemblage of mineral specimens that had been privately held for years.
The museum integrates modern scientific research with educational programs, allowing visitors to identify collected stones using professional laboratory equipment.
Visitors can view the stones up close as they walk through the well-marked exhibition areas at their own pace. The museum layout makes it easy to explore the different collection sections without feeling rushed.
The ground floor treasure section displays rare meteorites and exceptional pieces beneath Renaissance vaults with specialized lighting that highlights their natural character. This presentation sets the most valuable objects apart in an elevated setting.
