Maitrea restaurace, Vegetarian restaurant near Old Town Square, Prague, Czech Republic
Maitrea restaurace is a vegetarian restaurant in Prague 1, close to Old Town Square, spread across two floors. It has around 90 seats and an interior designed with water features, a fireplace, and carefully chosen materials throughout.
The restaurant took three years to plan and build, with architect Oldrich Hozman and sculptor Frantisek Svatek working on its design together. Their collaboration shaped the form the space has today.
The name comes from Maitreya, a figure from Buddhist tradition, and a Buddha statue stands in a dedicated corner inside the restaurant. The interior follows Feng Shui principles, with water features and a fireplace shaping how the space feels to visitors.
It is worth avoiding the 16:00 to 17:30 window when the kitchen transitions and hot food availability is limited. During busy periods, especially at lunch and early evening, some wait time is common.
The menu includes vegetarian takes on classic Czech dishes such as goulash and beef sirloin, keeping the flavors that locals know well. This makes it one of the few places where you can explore traditional Czech cooking without any meat.
