Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort
Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort is a resort hotel on a bluff overlooking the Salish Sea in Parksville, surrounded by rainforest with cedar, Douglas fir, and arbutus trees. The property features log-built cabins with rustic rooms, some with ocean views, two dining venues, the Grotto Spa with mineral pool and waterfalls, and meeting spaces accommodating over 400 people.
The resort began as a single cabin in 1946 and gradually developed into a recognized destination on Vancouver Island. Its Gaelic name reflects the region's historical connection to people who lived by and from the sea.
The name 'Tigh-Na-Mara' comes from Gaelic and means 'House by the Sea', reflecting the resort's deep connection to the water and its roots. Today, the place serves many cultures and backgrounds, hosting family celebrations, weddings, and gatherings where people from the region come to honor important moments with nature as their backdrop.
The resort is about half an hour north of Nanaimo and accessible by car, ferry, or plane, with ample parking on the grounds. Most public areas such as restaurants and the conference center are easy to enter, though some outdoor pathways are steep and not suitable for wheelchairs.
The resort houses the Grotto Spa, one of Canada's largest spa facilities, featuring a mineral pool and natural waterfalls that create soothing waterfall sounds in a spacious, calming setting. The beach nearby is known for having some of the warmest seawater in Canada, allowing for comfortable swimming even during cooler months.
