Branicki Palace, Late Baroque palace in Białystok, Poland
Branicki Palace is a late Baroque manor house in the center of Białystok, built around a central block flanked by two symmetrical wings. Behind the building stretches a formal garden laid out along a central axis, with rows of trees and a decorative fountain.
The site began as a fortified manor in the 16th century and was completely rebuilt by Jan Klemens Branicki starting in 1728. The work lasted until 1752 and gave the building its current Baroque form.
For people in Białystok, the palace is a familiar landmark that today serves as the Medical University. The painted ceilings and ornate plasterwork inside reflect the 18th-century taste for grand decoration that shaped how the building was used and admired.
Part of the building operates as a university, so not all rooms are open to visitors. Guided tours give access to the historic interiors, while the garden can be visited without joining a tour.
The garden sculptures were made by Johann Christoph Redler, a sculptor closely tied to the Branicki circle, and some of them survive to this day. Walking through the garden, visitors can still spot these figures among the hedges and pathways.
