Museum of illusions, Science museum in Old Town, Krakow, Poland.
The Museum of Illusions is a science museum on Grodzka Street in Krakow's Old Town, dedicated to optical illusions and perception experiments. It is spread across several rooms filled with interactive installations, including mirror setups, trick images, and constructions that confuse the sense of space and scale.
The museum was founded to bring the science of perception out of university laboratories and into a space where anyone could experience it directly. Grodzka Street, where it stands, has been one of the main routes through Krakow's center since the medieval period.
The exhibits show how the brain processes what the eyes see, and visitors can test this on themselves in each room. What looks fixed or flat often turns out to move or shift depending on where you stand.
The museum sits on Grodzka Street, a few minutes' walk from Market Square, and is easy to find on foot. A visit generally takes between one and two hours, depending on how long you spend in each room.
The Glass Labyrinth uses transparent panels arranged so closely together that finding the way out takes much longer than most visitors expect, even after multiple attempts. The near-invisible walls mean that walking into the glass is a very common experience for almost everyone who enters.
