Cheekwood, Art museum and botanical garden in Nashville, US
Cheekwood is an art museum and estate set across 55 acres with multiple exhibition spaces, outdoor sculptures, and landscaped gardens. The grounds feature walking trails that connect different areas, allowing visitors to explore both artworks and gardens at their own pace.
Leslie and Mabel Cheek founded this estate in 1929 using wealth from their coffee business. The grounds opened to the public in 1960 and became an important cultural institution for Nashville.
The collection displays works by American artists including William Edmondson and Jamie Wyeth across multiple media types. Visitors encounter paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts that reflect movements in the country's artistic development.
Visitors can explore the estate at their own pace, moving between indoor and outdoor areas as desired. The Visitor Services center provides information to help plan your time on the grounds.
The Martin Shallenberger Artist-in-Residence program allows artists to live on-site and create site-specific installations during their stay. These temporary works showcase the creative process and change the experience for returning visitors.
