Esquina Homero Manzi, Historic tango restaurant in Boedo, Argentina.
Esquina Homero Manzi is a two-story tango restaurant located at the corner of San Juan and Boedo avenues in the Boedo neighborhood. The space functions as both a dining establishment and a performance venue with a stage for live musicians.
The building opened in 1914 under the name El Aeroplano and changed owners several times throughout the twentieth century. Between 1937 and 1948, it operated as Nippon under Japanese management before becoming the tango-focused venue it is today.
The restaurant honors Homero Manzi, a poet who composed the famous tango 'Sur' while sitting here, a connection that shaped the venue's identity. The space carries this literary and musical heritage visibly in how locals and visitors speak about the place.
The venue serves meals throughout the day with tango performances happening in the evening hours. Plan to spend several hours if you want to enjoy both dinner and a full performance.
The exterior retains its original architectural details decorated with historical emblems that reflect decades of the city's past. An orchestra performs traditional instrumental pieces nightly, keeping the musical heritage alive in a working restaurant setting.
