Auberge de Crussol, Traditional restaurant at the foot of Crussol Castle in Saint-Péray, France.
Auberge de Crussol is a restaurant in Saint-Péray situated at the base of the Crussol Castle ruins with two outdoor terraces overlooking the Cornas vineyards. Meals are cooked over a wood fire, creating a direct connection between the kitchen and the landscape below.
The establishment sits next to Crussol Castle, a medieval stronghold whose ruins have overlooked the Rhône Valley since the 12th century. This fortification shaped the region's history and the development of settlements and local food culture around it.
The restaurant sits within a landscape shaped by wine growing traditions. Diners experience how the kitchen and surroundings are intertwined with centuries of grape cultivation, where local wines have always been central to meals and community.
The restaurant operates best during warmer months when outdoor seating is most comfortable; checking ahead for weather or group arrivals ensures a smooth experience. Larger parties should arrange in advance to allow the kitchen time to prepare.
The wood fire does more than just cook; it infuses each dish with a distinct roasted flavor that comes only from burning timber. This cooking method has largely disappeared from restaurants elsewhere, making the food here noticeably different.

A very nice inn at the foot of the ruins of Château de Crussol. The food is good and consists of a cuisine made with local products and partly cooked over a wood fire. Recommended on sunny days with its very lovely terrace.
