Aquarium du Limousin

Aquarium du Limousin displays over 380 species in about 40 tanks, ranging from local river fish to tropical varieties. The collection also includes aquatic turtles and other reptiles from different environments.

The building occupies an underground water reservoir built during Napoleon III's era, originally constructed to supply water to the city. This historic structure was later adapted into a modern space for displaying animals.

The facility serves as a refuge for abandoned aquatic pets from the area, where a dedicated association cares for animals that people no longer want. Visitors can observe how these creatures are cared for in the tanks.

The facility sits opposite City Hall and is easy to locate while exploring the downtown area. Access is straightforward for most visitors, and opening hours allow for flexible visits throughout the day.

The site was built more than 150 years ago as a water storage facility for the city and remains one of the few structures of its kind adapted for this new purpose. This old infrastructure creates an unusual setting rarely found in modern aquariums.
