La Ratera

La Ratera is a restaurant in Milan with rustic decor and simple wooden furniture spread across small dining rooms and a bright veranda area. The menu changes daily and is displayed on large boards on the walls, featuring dishes prepared by chef Salvatore Garofalo using fresh market ingredients.

The restaurant has been part of the local neighborhood for many years, with its history intertwined with the area's daily life. Its walls hold memories of past times and the everyday moments of people who have lived in and visited the surrounding community.

The restaurant takes its name from a traditional meat slicer, the Berkel machine, which still sits visibly in the larger dining room as a nod to old Milan. It reflects how locals and visitors gather to share uncomplicated meals together, where slowing down and enjoying company matter more than speed or formality.

It is a good idea to book a table in advance, especially on weekends and Sunday afternoons, as the restaurant fills up quickly near the San Siro stadium. The place has about 40 seats indoors and offers outdoor tables when the weather permits.

Marco Rinaldi, who manages the service, carefully selects small bottles of craft beer to pair with dishes, making beer an important part of the dining experience. The restaurant also welcomes small animals, allowing guests to bring their pets, and offers a doggy bag service for leftovers.
