Patios de Cafayate
Patios de Cafayate is a hotel housed in a building originally built in 1740 as the La Rosa estate and now located in the town of Cafayate in Salta Province. The property holds 32 rooms of varying sizes, thick adobe walls, large wooden doors, and an original chapel decorated with details from Peru, blending Spanish Colonial architecture with local artisan work and handwoven fabrics.
The estate began in 1740 as a private residence and working farm where cattle were raised and grapes were grown for centuries. In the early 1800s, a French family purchased the property, planted vineyards, and established what would become the renowned Bodega El Esteco winery.
The name refers to the traditional courtyards that define Spanish Colonial design throughout the property. These patios remain working spaces where guests gather to taste regional wines and engage with the winemaking heritage that has shaped Cafayate for generations.
The hotel sits at the intersection of Routes 40 and 68, approximately 2 kilometers from Cafayate town center, and offers a restaurant, massage center, reading room, and outdoor pool. Visitors should know that the pool is unheated, but rooms face different directions with some overlooking vineyards and others offering views of surrounding hills.
A complimentary glass of the region's Torrontés white wine is offered daily at 5 in the afternoon, sourced from the adjoining Bodega El Esteco winery that remains active on the grounds. This daily tasting directly connects guests to the winemaking tradition that has taken place at this location since the early 1800s.
