Our Lady of Rosary Cathedral, Cafayate

Our Lady of Rosary Cathedral is a large church building with five interior naves running along its length. The multiple aisles and columns create a spacious interior typical of cathedral architecture from that period.

Construction began in 1885 to replace an older building that had fallen into disrepair. The new structure represented a period of religious renewal in Cafayate during the late 1800s.

The cathedral serves as a spiritual center for Cafayate's Catholic community and hosts religious celebrations throughout the year. People gather here for weddings, baptisms, and daily worship, making it a vital part of local life.

Visitors should plan to arrive in the early morning or late afternoon when religious services are not taking place. The interior is easily accessible, and there is no admission fee, though respectful behavior is expected during worship times.

The five-nave design is an uncommon architectural choice among South American churches. This layout provides extra seating capacity and creates a sense of openness inside.
