Monumento to Juan Bautista Alberdi, Tucumán, Bronze and marble sculpture in Plaza Alberdi, Tucumán, Argentina.

The monument to Juan Bautista Alberdi is a bronze and marble sculpture located in Plaza Alberdi in Tucumán. The central figure shows Alberdi with crossed arms, accompanied by allegorical representations of the Republic and Music, along with several decorative elements arranged in a pyramidal composition.

Tucumán province enacted a law in 1889 to construct this monument, which was completed in 1904 under sculptor Lola Mora's direction. The work took shape during a period when Argentina was consolidating its national institutions and symbols.

The monument displays symbols of Alberdi's legacy such as a pen and an open book that reference his constitutional work Las Bases. These elements tell the story of his influence on the country's political development.

The monument underwent extensive restoration work between 1991 and 1994, with Italian conservation experts working under the direction of Beatriz Cazzaniga. Visitors can clearly see the renewed details and craftsmanship in the materials following this restoration effort.

The sculpture combines Carrara marble and San Luis onyx plates in a pyramidal structure that brings together multiple symbolic figures and decorative elements. This blend of materials and complex arrangement demonstrate the sculptural skill of artist Lola Mora.
