Isla de los Deseos, Artificial island in Cabra Corral Reservoir, La Viña Department, Argentina
Isla de los Deseos is an artificial island in Cabra Corral Reservoir in Salta Province, featuring an observation platform that rises about 100 feet (30 meters) above the water. From the top, visitors can see across the entire reservoir and the surrounding mountain ranges that frame the landscape.
The island formed after construction of Cabra Corral Dam in the 1970s when the valley was flooded to create the reservoir. It became one of several small islands scattered throughout the artificial lake created by this water project.
The stone staircase leading from the dock to the summit represents the regional architectural techniques used in northwestern Argentina.
Reaching the island requires taking a boat from Punta de Mahr port, with services available throughout the year. The stone stairs to the summit can be steep, so wearing proper footwear is important for a safe climb.
The summit has designated spaces where celebrations and social gatherings can take place with panoramic water views all around. This makes it an unexpected venue for events, where attendees can enjoy the unusual experience of gathering on an island surrounded by the reservoir.
