History Museum of the North

The History Museum of the North is a history museum housed in an 18th-century building that displays objects from different periods. Multiple rooms contain indigenous artifacts, colonial-era items, and historical documents that tell the story of the region.

The building was constructed in 1717 and served as a government office for many years before being converted into a museum in 1937. In the years between, it underwent major renovations that modernized the structure and prepared it for its new role.

The collection displays pre-Hispanic stone figures, Inca burial vessels, and Portuguese-influenced furniture from the colonial period. You can also see religious paintings that reflect the spiritual world of that era.

The museum sits in a central location and is easy to reach on most weekdays. The interior layout is straightforward, making it simple to explore the collection at your own pace.

A special room honors General Güemes, an important leader of the independence movement in northern Argentina. There you can see personal items like his hat and other memorabilia from his life.
