Castel Caldes, Medieval castle museum in Caldes, Italy
Castel Caldes is a castle and museum at the entrance of Val di Sole valley with five stories, vaulted ceilings, and wooden panels. The rooms are decorated with frescoes that show the artistic furnishings from different periods.
The Cagnò family built the central tower between 1230 and 1235. The Thun family purchased it later and expanded it into a larger castle from 1464 onward.
The castle shows a mix of Venetian, German, and Lombard building styles that reflect its location at the border of the Prince-Bishopric of Trento. Visitors can see today how these different influences come together in the rooms and structure.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and offers regular guided tours. Different ticket options allow you to visit other castles in the region as well.
A small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary from the late 16th century forms an essential part of the castle complex. It shows the religious importance the family gave to their residence.
