Hotel El Castillo de los Locos
Hotel El Castillo de los Locos is a nine-room hotel in Suances built with stone walls and turrets that resemble a small castle. Six of its rooms overlook the cliff and sea, and the building sits directly above a cliff edge where you can hear waves breaking below and see the beach from the terrace.
The building was constructed in 1904 and fell into ruins for decades before being taken over and fully renovated by Javier Collado and his team in 2021. The renovation preserved its historic stone structure while introducing modern design to transform it into a functioning hotel.
The name 'El Castillo de los Locos' means 'The Castle of the Crazy Ones' and reflects the town's playful spirit and local humor. The hotel hosts live music and DJ sessions in the evenings, creating a casual gathering space where guests and locals come together to enjoy drinks and conversation.
The hotel sits directly above a cliff with immediate access to Playa Los Locos, one of Spain's most famous surf beaches. On-site amenities include a restaurant and cafe serving breakfast, brunch, and dinner, along with a bar featuring occasional live music and DJ events.
The hotel is known for its breakfast offerings, particularly the 'Surfero' featuring eggs, fries, and bacon, and artisan croissants that guests describe as among the best in Cantabria. Regular sunset hours between 7 and 10 p.m. bring live music or DJ sessions to the terrace, turning the daily descent of the sun into a social event.
