Suances

Suances is a coastal town in Cantabria that stretches along a bay with five different beaches. Several small islands sit near the mouth of two rivers, shaping the character of the shoreline.

The settlement began as a fishing village and later developed into a significant local center. Fortifications like La Mota de Tres Palacios in nearby Hinojedo show that the area held strategic importance during medieval times.

The Las Brujas cave displays hand imprints from the Stone Age, showing that people lived and created art in this region thousands of years ago. Visitors can see these ancient marks today and understand how human presence has shaped this coastal area for millennia.

The main access roads are CA-132 toward Viveda and CA-136 toward Santillana del Mar. Bus services connect this area to other parts of the region.

Each of the five beaches has its own character: some attract surfers, others draw quieter visitors. The different coves and water conditions make each stretch of coast appealing to different kinds of beach users.
