Pizzeria Brückenwirt
Pizzeria Brückenwirt in St. Martin in Passeier is a restaurant seating about 100 guests that serves freshly baked pizzas, pasta, and local South Tyrol dishes. The building also houses a small brewery where the specialty beer Höllenbräu ferments in wooden barrels, and features a rustic interior with wooden furniture, visible copper kettles, and a summer terrace.
The building started in the early 1900s as a timber mill near a stream. Over time it evolved into a brewery and dining operation, and since 2003 it is the only brewery in Italy that ferments beer in wooden barrels.
The name Brückenwirt references the bridge over the stream nearby where travelers historically stopped to rest. Today you can see this connection to place reflected in how the restaurant brings together locals and visitors who gather after mountain adventures.
The restaurant opens daily in late morning and closes in the evening. The location is easy to reach with free parking right outside the building and sits near popular hiking trails and mountain roads.
The specialty beer Höllenbräu is fermented only here in wooden barrels, a method rarely found in Italian brewing. This fermentation process gives the beer a particular flavor that many visitors find surprisingly interesting.
