The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club
The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club is a hotel on Collins Avenue in South Beach, Miami Beach, built in the Art Deco style with interiors done in bright colors. It has two pools, one on the roof and one outside shaded by bamboo, along with several bars and restaurants, and rooms ranging from standard options to suites with private rooftop terraces.
South Beach saw a wave of construction in the 1930s that gave the neighborhood its dense row of Art Deco buildings, including the one that now houses the Catalina. The area fell into decline over the following decades before being gradually restored from the 1980s onward, which brought new life to the hotels along Collins Avenue.
The hotel sits inside the Art Deco District, where the facades of buildings from the 1930s and 1940s are still easy to spot along the streets. The pastel colors and curved lines of the surrounding architecture give the neighborhood a look that visitors notice as soon as they start walking around.
The beach is directly across the street from the hotel, so reaching the sand takes almost no time on foot. The surrounding area is easy to explore on foot, with shops, galleries and places to eat and drink all within a short walk.
The hotel offers guests free drinks during set hours each day, a perk that tends to draw people to the rooftop toward the end of the afternoon. Some evenings a DJ plays up there, and guests staying in suites with private rooftop terraces can take in that same mood without leaving their room.
