The building was originally constructed in 1937 as the Dempsey-Vanderbilt Hotel and maintained its architectural significance throughout Miami Beach's development. In 2004, it underwent a comprehensive transformation into The Setai, acquiring its current appearance and mixed-use function.

The property blends Eastern design principles with Miami Beach's Art Deco heritage through black granite floors, French limestone, and authentic Asian artifacts displayed throughout public areas. This fusion creates a distinctive aesthetic that sets it apart from other hotels in the region.
