Miami Beach Botanical Garden, Botanical garden in Miami Beach, US
Miami Beach Botanical Garden is a public botanical garden located near the Convention Center in Miami Beach, Florida. The grounds feature a Japanese-style section with a koi pond, open lawn areas, and a waterfront path, alongside collections of palms, orchids, and native plants.
The garden was founded in 1962 as a community green space initiative for residents of Miami Beach. Over the following decades, the site was gradually developed and expanded with new plant collections and landscape features.
The garden is regularly used as a venue for art shows and outdoor events throughout the year. The Japanese-style section with its koi pond tends to draw visitors who stop to watch the fish and sit on nearby benches.
Entry to the garden is free, making it easy to visit without planning ahead. The paths are flat and easy to walk, and arriving in the morning tends to be more comfortable during the warmer months.
The zebra longwing butterfly, often spotted on the plants here, is the only butterfly in North America known to digest pollen, which allows it to live much longer than most butterfly species. This diet gives the zebra longwing a lifespan of several months, compared to just a few weeks for most others.
