National Museum of Qatar

The Muzeum Narodowe Kataru is a national museum in Doha located on a peninsula by the water, immediately recognizable by its interlocking disc-shaped elements. The structure extends horizontally over a considerable length, connecting several building sections through covered passages and open courtyards.

The complex was built around the palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, which served as the seat of government until the mid-20th century. The present museum design dates from 2019 and combines the restored old building with the new exhibition spaces.

The permanent exhibition guides visitors through successive chapters, from Bedouin life through the pearl era to present-day society. Each gallery uses projections, installations, and original objects to show how people's lives have changed over time.

The building is open daily except Fridays from morning until evening, and it is advisable to plan several hours for the visit. The entrance is located on the land side of the peninsula, and the rooms are air-conditioned and accessible without barriers.

The disc-shaped elements of the facade act as natural sun shades and considerably reduce the heat load inside. This passive climate control lowers the energy consumption for cooling and contributes to the building's sustainability.
