Northstar California Resort
Northstar California Resort is a mountain resort near Lake Tahoe in Placer County, California, with ski slopes, hiking trails, and a purpose-built village center with shops and restaurants. The property covers several elevations linked by lift systems that give access to different activity areas throughout the year.
The resort opened in December 1972 on land that had previously been used for logging. An Austrian ski architect who came to North America after World War II designed the trail layout, and the basic structure of those runs is still in use today.
The central village draws guests from across the region who gather after a day on the slopes or trails. The shops and restaurants around the main square give the place the feel of a real meeting point that works in every season.
The resort is easy to reach from nearby towns like Truckee, and clear signs guide visitors to the lifts, trails, and facilities on arrival. Covered indoor spaces are available throughout the property, and the village stays lit in the evenings.
The same lift infrastructure that carries skiers in winter is also used by mountain bikers in summer, who ride up and then descend on the same trails. This means some runs serve two completely different types of visitors depending on the time of year.
