The Natural History Museum in Jelenia Góra displays animal skeletons, minerals, insects, and fossil remains across several exhibition rooms housed in a historic building. The objects come from the mountain region and show what forms of life existed there at different times.

The institution was founded in the 19th century to document and study the natural world of the nearby mountain region. Since then, it has gathered and preserved objects showing how the animal life and geology of the area changed over time.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and can be reached on foot from the city center. Keep in mind that mountain museums sometimes have damp exhibition areas in rainy weather, so sturdy footwear is helpful.

The museum preserves bones and skin from animal species that vanished from the mountain forests, some more than a century ago. These remains give visitors a rare chance to see what extinct mountain dwellers actually looked like.
