Breizh Café, Crêperie in Le Marais, Paris, France
Breizh Café is a crêperie and restaurant on Rue Vieille du Temple in the Marais neighborhood of Paris, serving Breton-style buckwheat galettes and sweet crêpes alongside over 60 ciders from Brittany. The interior is fitted throughout with wood, covering the floors, walls, and tables, giving the space a simple and warm feel.
The restaurant was founded by Bertrand Larcher, who brought his knowledge of Breton cooking from Fougères to open the first location in Paris. The concept was later taken to other cities, including Cancale and Tokyo.
The name of the place points directly to its Breton identity, which runs through every part of the menu, from the galettes to the range of ciders on offer. Sitting here feels closer to a meal in Brittany than to a typical Parisian dining experience.
The place is on a busy street in the heart of the Marais and easy to reach on foot from the surrounding area. Seating inside is limited, so coming outside the main meal hours gives you a better chance of sitting down without a wait.
The kitchen uses organic Breton buckwheat, Bordier butter, Label Rouge salmon, and free-range eggs, ingredients that go well beyond what most crêperies work with. The result on the plate is noticeably different from what you would expect from a more ordinary version of the same dishes.
