Jeng Chi
Jeng Chi is a restaurant in Richardson that specializes in Chinese dishes, particularly hand-made dumplings and house-made noodles. Located in a strip mall, it serves steamed and fried dumplings, noodle bowls with fresh broths, stir-fried vegetables, traditional mooncakes, and desserts such as fruit cake in a clean, modest dining space.
The restaurant was established in the 1990s in Texas, drawing from a business the owner's grandfather ran in China. Chico Teng took over the restaurant in 2013 with his wife Janelle and relocated it to a larger space within the DFW Chinatown area, where it has grown in the following years.
The name Jeng Chi comes from the family's Chinese heritage, referencing a business the owner's grandfather started in China decades ago. Today the space serves as a gathering place where people enjoy traditional dishes and homemade mooncakes, especially during the Mid-Autumn Festival when families share these pastries as part of their celebration.
The restaurant is located on North Greenville Avenue in a strip mall with other Asian shops and eateries nearby. It is open most of the day but closes for a short afternoon break, so plan your visit outside these hours or be prepared to wait if you arrive during this pause.
The fruit cake squares have been made since 1990 using a special recipe and are beloved by regular visitors. Chico personally trained the pastry staff in Taiwan in preparing these Taiwanese-inspired desserts, giving them a distinctive handcrafted quality.
