Fukubishi Kagerou Café
Fukubishi Kagerou Café is a restaurant in Shirahama with an attached bakery operating since 1933 that serves traditional Japanese sweets and light meals. The space features a bright and welcoming interior with both seating areas and a seaside terrace where ocean waves are often audible.
The shop was founded in 1933 and has maintained a long craft tradition, while the café itself opened in 2016 to serve the famous Nama-Kagerou sweet. The Kagerou sweet was even presented as a gift to the emperor and empress during a 1971 visit.
The café serves traditional sweets that reflect local flavors and ingredients from the Shirahama area. The shop's dedication to regional recipes and the naming of treats like Hamayu after local symbols show how the place connects visitors to the community's food traditions.
The café opens early in the morning around 8 AM and stays open until evening, with last orders around 5:30 PM. Free parking is available in front of the shop and in an adjacent lot that accommodates larger vehicles.
The Nama-Kagerou, a soft sweet filled with whipped cream, is available only at this café and comes in rotating seasonal flavors like strawberry and chestnut. The Hamayu sweet can be lightly toasted in a pan or toaster after purchase to create a slightly crispy surface.
