Yushukan Museum

The Yushukan Museum in Chiyoda is a military museum displaying weapons, armor, swords, battle flags, and documents from various periods of Japanese history. The exhibition areas also feature restored combat aircraft and historical vehicles on the ground floor.

The museum was founded in 1882 and incorporated design elements from Italian architects, featuring medieval castle characteristics. Its origins trace to the early Meiji period when Japan was building its modern institutions.

The collection shows how soldiers lived and what mattered to them through personal letters, uniforms, and everyday objects. These items reveal the individual experiences of those who served.

Access is convenient from Kudanshita Station, which is just a short walk away and offers good public transport connections. Opening hours are daily from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, so plan your visit accordingly.

On display is a restored A6M Zero combat aircraft, one of the most famous planes used by the Japanese air force. Visitors can also see a Class C56 steam locomotive, which shows the technical advances of that era.
