Château de Beauregard
The Château de Beauregard is a castle and museum in Cellettes housing an impressive collection of artworks and historic rooms. The estate spans 40 hectares (100 acres) with twelve themed garden sections, a small chapel, an icehouse, and the famous Jardin des Portraits decorated with sculptures.
Built originally as a hunting lodge for King François I, the château later attracted important figures like Cardinal Richelieu and King Louis XIV. Since 1926, the same family has owned and maintained the property, preserving its heritage throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.
The gallery displays over 300 portraits of European figures that help visitors connect with history through faces and stories. The Jardin des Portraits merges these artworks with nature, creating a space where the past feels present and alive.
The château is open daily from spring through late autumn, with extended hours in summer. The site is bike-friendly with dedicated parking and services for cyclists, and visitors find picnic tables, a café, a gift shop, and overnight accommodations available.
A Renaissance room called the cabinet des grelots was designed by a royal craftsman and showcases the artistic elegance of that era. The gallery was originally built for ceremonies where kings and ministers gathered to discuss politics and history.
