Château de Beauregard, Loire Valley
Château de Beauregard, Loire Valley, Renaissance castle in Cellettes, France.
Château de Beauregard is a Renaissance castle in Cellettes near Blois, with a main building and two side wings. The complex also includes extensive gardens and several interior rooms displaying furniture and artwork from various periods.
The castle was founded around 1545 by Jean du Thiers, who served as secretary under King Henry II. The building received its characteristic Renaissance form through the renovation of an earlier manor house.
The Portrait Gallery displays paintings of French and European figures from different periods, hung along the walls for visitors to view. Walking through the room, you can see the faces of rulers, nobles, and other important people of their time.
The property can be visited through guided tours that provide insight into the rooms and their collections. The gardens are also accessible on foot and offer space for longer stays and walks.
The floor of the Portrait Gallery is covered with hand-painted ceramic tiles from Delft that display geometric patterns. These Dutch tiles form an elaborate mosaic beneath the paintings on the walls.

The Loire Valley has castles built between the 15th and 17th centuries. They show the history of the French Renaissance and the classical period. These royal and noble homes tell stories of how people lived and built during those times. You can see carved staircases, water galleries, moats, defensive towers, and parks with geometric designs. Some castles like Chambord or Chenonceau are large and bold in design. Others, like Azay-le-Rideau or Villandry, are charming for their natural settings and restored gardens. Leonardo da Vinci is buried in Amboise. In Blois, four different building styles appear one after another. Loches has a medieval tower. Each place offers a different view of how kings, queens, and noble families lived and shaped this region.
The Centre-Val de Loire showcases a diverse heritage, from medieval fortresses like Château de Lavardin to Renaissance structures. The region features protected natural sites such as the Chérine Nature Reserve and the Domaine du Ciran, which host hundreds of bird species in their ponds and woodlands. The Savonnières Pétrifiantes Caves illustrate local geological phenomena, while the Briare Canal Bridge demonstrates 19th-century engineering. This selection also includes historical and cultural sites, from the Dunois Mill preserving 17th-century mechanisms to the Marcel Proust Museum housed in an authentic residence. The Picassiette House in Chartres exhibits Raymond Isidore's unique work over several decades. The Parc Floral de la Source and the Saint-Ours Collegiate complete this exploration combining Gothic religious architecture with themed gardens, providing diverse discoveries accessible to visitors.
