Sierras Hotel
Sierras Hotel is an early 20th century building in English style founded by Guillermo Franchini, originally featuring 72 rooms with elegant furnishings surrounded by gardens and walking paths. The grounds are filled with century-old trees including araucarias, palms, and ceiba trees near the Dique del Tajamar waterway.
Foundation began on February 4, 1906 when Guillermo Franchini launched a luxury project that quickly attracted wealthy travelers seeking refined surroundings. An attached casino opened in 1913 hosting theater, concerts, and social events until its closure in 1916 due to social opposition to gambling.
The hotel shaped how people in Alta Gracia understood luxury travel and social gathering for generations. Its gardens and surroundings became a gathering place where visitors connected with nature and each other in a refined setting.
The grounds are free to enter and feature parking, gardens for walking, a children's playground with various equipment, and a swimming pool open during warm months. The layout invites leisurely walks and is easily accessible on foot.
Famous visitors like composer Manuel de Falla lived here for extended periods, and he spent his final two years and died within these walls. Members of European royalty including Belgian kings and Italian President Giovanni Gronchi also stayed here, creating a layer of international prestige.
