Catacomb of Priscilla, Early Christian underground burial complex in Via Salaria, Rome, Italy
The Catacombs of Priscilla contain a network of tunnels extending over 10 kilometers across multiple underground levels with thousands of burial spaces.
The catacombs served as burial grounds from the second to fourth century, named after Priscilla, a Roman noblewoman who supported the Christian community.
The walls display frescoes depicting biblical scenes, including the earliest known representation of Mary nursing the infant Jesus from the third century.
Visitors require advance reservations and can only enter the catacombs with official guides who explain the historical and archaeological aspects.
The Greek Chapel contains third-century frescoes showing the Fractio Panis ritual and representations of the Last Judgment above its apse.
