Bunker villa Ada Savoia

Bunker Villa Ada Savoia is an underground shelter located within Villa Ada park, featuring a circular structure with a heavy metal entry door. The facility includes a sophisticated ventilation system designed to maintain livable conditions during extended periods underground.

The shelter was built between 1940 and 1942 as an air-raid protection facility for the Italian royal family during World War II. It represented one of several defensive measures put in place to protect Rome from aerial attacks.

The bunker displays original furnishings from the 1940s that show how people lived in these underground spaces during the war. The preserved objects give visitors a direct sense of daily life and the precautions that were necessary at that time.

Access is only possible through advance reservations and guided tours organized by Roma Sotterranea. Visitors should contact the organization in advance since visits are by appointment only and group sizes may be restricted.

The bunker used a manually operated ventilation system that required no electricity and relied on simple mechanical principles. This ingenious solution allowed the facility to maintain air quality during extended stays without depending on power supplies.
