The Artist's House, Waterfront café in Phasi Charoen, Thailand.
The Artist's House is a two-story wooden building along Bangkok Yai Canal, featuring art galleries, performance spaces and dining areas arranged throughout its L-shaped layout. Multiple rooms and outdoor areas within the grounds serve different purposes for artistic activities and gathering.
The building was originally owned by the Raksamruat family, who worked as goldsmiths, before being transformed into an art center. A Buddhist chedi standing at the site's center dates back around 300 years.
Traditional Thai puppet performances take place here, telling stories from the Ramayana and local folklore through handcrafted marionettes and live music. Skilled performers keep this ancient art form alive for visitors who watch the intricate movements and hear the accompanying melodies.
The location can be reached by boat from Tha Chang pier or by taxi after taking the BTS Skytrain to Wongwian Yai station. The best time to visit is on quieter days during early morning or late afternoon hours.
The walls throughout the space serve as exhibition areas for paintings and photographs from local artists. Every Sunday, craft workshops are held where visitors can observe traditional techniques being practiced.
