Estiatorio Milos
Estiatorio Milos is a Greek seafood restaurant in Montreal featuring fresh fish and Mediterranean dishes prepared with simple techniques that highlight natural flavors. The space showcases an open fish bar visible from most tables, flowing large curtains, and a central staircase that creates a sense of movement throughout the room.
The restaurant opened in 1979 when founder Costas Spiliadis, who came from Greece to study in North America, was inspired by traditional Greek fish taverns called psaraotavernas. It expanded in the 1990s to a larger space accommodating over 160 guests, and a 2015 renovation refreshed the design while maintaining its Greek character.
The restaurant takes its name from a Greek island and opened in 1979 when the surrounding Park Street area was filled with Greek shops and businesses. It has become a gathering place where the owner recognizes many long-time customers across generations, sometimes welcoming their children and grandchildren.
The restaurant has comfortable seating throughout with views of the open fish bar, and offers private dining areas for group gatherings and celebrations. Staff are attentive and knowledgeable about menu selections and wine pairings, though the space can become lively and noisy during dinner service.
Milos was among the first restaurants to feature an open kitchen where guests watch chefs prepare food in real time, and includes an in-house fish market where visitors can select their own seafood before cooking. This approach created a personal and transparent dining experience.
