American Diner, 1950s American restaurant in Durlach, Germany
American Diner is an American-style restaurant housed in a former blacksmith workshop in Durlach, a district of Karlsruhe. The interior reproduces the look of postwar American diners, with red leather booths and chrome fixtures throughout.
The building served as a blacksmith workshop before it was fully renovated and reopened as a restaurant in 2015. The renovation kept much of the original structure in place while giving the space a completely new purpose.
The name and design evoke 1950s American diner culture, which comes alive here through period-appropriate uniforms and authentic details that staff members wear daily. Visitors experience a glimpse into the golden age of American dining while eating.
The restaurant is located in Durlach and is open Wednesday through Monday. Seating is available both inside and outside, with table service throughout.
The kitchen uses an American smoker imported from the United States to cook burgers at controlled temperatures, which allows for different levels of doneness. This type of cooking setup is rarely found in the region.
